Licensed Clinical Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)

Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides comprehensive outpatient primary and specialty medical care to Service members and beneficiaries receiving care at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE). The NP/PA supports patients with complex medical, neurological, and psychological health conditions—frequently associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI)—through evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and interdisciplinary care coordination under the privileges granted by the Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized primary and acute medical care within the scope of licensure, certification, and clinical privileges granted by the MTF.
- Conduct comprehensive and problem-focused medical histories and physical examinations.
- Assess acute and non-acute clinical conditions and formulate differential and working diagnoses based on subjective and objective data.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory studies and imaging, as clinically indicated.
- Develop, implement, and revise individualized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary clinical teams.
- Prescribe medications, initiate emergency care when appropriate, and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Coordinate and collaborate with physicians regarding patient management, including high-risk, unstable, or complex patients.
- Refer patients to specialty clinics, ancillary services, and community-based resources as appropriate.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences, treatment planning meetings, and clinical operations related to TBI and psychological health evaluation and care.
- Provide consultation services to other healthcare professionals and assist in the education and training of residents, interns, nurses, and allied health staff as assigned.
- Evaluate outcomes of care and practice patterns against national benchmarks to support quality improvement and clinical effectiveness initiatives.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in MHS GENESIS in compliance with DoD, DHA, MTF, and Joint Commission standards.
- Close clinical documentation within three (3) business days of patient encounters and respond to beneficiary messages through secure patient portals within one (1) business day.
- Complete all required training and maintain competency in MHS GENESIS, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Comply with all regulatory, quality assurance, utilization management, patient safety, and Joint Commission requirements applicable to Military Treatment Facilities.
Required Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner
- Education: Master’s or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program.
- Certification: Current national board certification from ANCC, AANPCB, or another nationally recognized certifying body appropriate to the NP’s specialty.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nurse (APN/NP) license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting within the past five (5) years while privileged as a Nurse Practitioner.
Required Qualifications – Physician Assistant
- Education: Master’s degree from an ARC-PA–accredited Physician Assistant program or equivalent education meeting DHA requirements.
- Certification: Current Physician Assistant–Certified (PA-C) credential through successful completion of the PANCE administered by the NCCPA.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting within the past five (5) years while privileged as a Physician Assistant.
Additional Requirements
- Citizenship: U.S. citizen or otherwise authorized to work in accordance with the base contract PWS.
- Systems & Technology: Proficiency with MHS GENESIS, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Compliance: Ability to meet all credentialing, privileging, background investigation, training, and occupational health requirements for work within a Military Treatment Facility.
Work Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Duty hours generally between 0600–1800, Monday through Friday
