Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurse
Site of Service
Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA and associated Branch Health/Medical Clinics (BHC) and Tricare Prime Clinics (TPC).
Hours
Hours per PWS: Monday through Sunday between 0700 and 1900 for 160 hours per week; clinic open on federal holidays except Group B holidays.
Position Overview
The LPN/LVN coverage role at TPC Suffolk supports outpatient Military Home Port operations and helps maintain access to care for enrolled beneficiaries. This position is ideal for a practical nurse who is comfortable supporting a high-volume clinic environment and collaborating closely with RNs and physicians.
Position Qualifications / Requirements
Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved LPN/LVN training program, or graduate of an accredited LPN program by ACEN, or completion of an equivalent military training program.
Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice as an LPN/LVN in any one of the fifty (50) States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Certification: Basic Life Support and any certifications required by Exhibit 5; board certification is not specified in the PWS.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience as an LPN working in an outpatient acute care (hospital based) or ambulatory care setting within the last two years.
Duties
· Performs intake, triage, and basic nursing care under clinic guidelines.
· Obtains patient histories, vital signs, specimens, and diagnostic support data.
· Assists with examinations, treatments, minor procedures, and patient transport.
· Administers medications and immunizations within LPN/LVN scope and standard nursing practice.
· Prepares and maintains patient areas, supplies, equipment, and emergency carts.
· Documents nursing observations, treatments, medication administration, and patient responses.
· Supports patient education, discharge planning, follow-up scheduling, and referral coordination.
· Assists with Medical Home Port screening, registries, and preventative care outreach.
· Maintains clinic logs, records, and required documentation in electronic systems.
· Supports safe, orderly, and efficient clinic operations throughout assigned shifts.
Base Down Days
The MTF observes installation training holidays and base down days. The contractor shall not be required to work on these days and will not receive additional compensation.
Citizenship/English Language/Physical Capability: U.S. citizenship is required for this position. All contractor personnel must demonstrate professional proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and government personnel. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods; lift and move patients or equipment as required by the clinical setting; and perform the physical demands inherent to the specialty.

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
