Site of Service: Evans Army Community Hospital, 1650 Cochrane Cir, Fort Carson, CO 80913, and other applicable locations within the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and External Resource Sharing Agreement (ERSA).

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shift between 0600–1800 with a 30- to 60-minute uncompensated lunch; no on-call hours.

Position Overview: This physician assistant position supports the mission of Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson by delivering direct patient care in a military medical environment serving Soldiers, families, and beneficiaries. The role offers a clinically focused practice supporting readiness, access to care, and high-quality treatment in a federal health system.

Position Qualifications / Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Licensure: Current, valid, unrestricted license specific to the position in any U.S. jurisdiction.

Board Certification: Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA)

Cardiac Certifications:

·        Basic Life Support (BLS)

·        Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Experience: Actively practiced as a Physician Assistant in gastroenterology or internal medicine or in training for 24 months within the last 36 months with clinical and surgical first assistant competency. Clinical competency is verifiable by clinical and surgical activity logs submitted by the previous medical institutions.

Duties:

This contract worker will work in the Gastroenterology department.

·        Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., guide and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).

·        Technically guide and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions in order to diagnose, prescribe for and treat diseases, disorders and injuries, and refer the more complex cases and serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform designated treatment.

·        Technically guide and teach other staff, provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.

·        Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.

·        Prescribe in accordance with approved treatment protocols and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved medications and immunizations.

·        Identify a medical problem and determine appropriate action to meet the problem, including referral to a physician.

·        Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with scope of practice.

·        Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nursing and others in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.

·        Teach patients and family member's healthy regimen and responsibility for achieving wellness.

·        Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement.

Base Down Days

The MTF observes installation training holidays and base down days. The contractor shall not be required to work on these days and will not receive additional compensation.

Citizenship/English Language/Physical Capability: U.S. citizenship is required for this position. All contractor personnel must demonstrate professional proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and government personnel. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods; lift and move patients or equipment as required by the clinical setting; and perform the physical demands inherent to the specialty.

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
