ACUPUNCTURIST

SITE OF SERVICE:

Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC) Intrepid Spirit Center (ISC), 8725 John J. Kingman Road, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday, 8- or 10-hour shifts between 0600 and 1800 (typical clinical hours 0700–1600), 40 hours per week. No on-call hours. Contract workers are not required to work on federally recognized holidays. The specific work schedule will be assigned by the Government service chief and provided one month in advance for each two-week period. Alternative or compressed work schedules may be implemented by mutual agreement of the Contractor and the Government.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Acupuncturist provides individualized acupuncture and East Asian Medicine services at the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center Intrepid Spirit Center, Fort Belvoir, VA, under a Defense Health Agency (DHA) personal services contract within the MQS2-NG Intrepid Spirit Centers Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI) program. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Acupuncturist supports service members and their families affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI), pain, and related neurological and behavioral health conditions, integrating acupuncture, group acupuncture, and traditional East Asian Medicine modalities into individualized treatment plans focused on readiness and resilience.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

      Education: Master’s degree in acupuncture or oriental medicine, or an advanced-level degree in acupuncture or oriental medicine, from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). Official transcripts are required.

      Board Certification: Current board certification through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Certification must remain current, and the Acupuncturist must abide by NCCAOM continuing education requirements.

      Licensure: Full, current, active, and unrestricted state license to practice acupuncture in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.

      Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through an American Heart Association recognized program. Competencies or self-assessment skills checklists testing demonstrating skills applicable to substance abuse treatment shall be provided to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) prior to hire as part of the pre-employment package.

      Experience: At least two years of experience within the past five years practicing as an acupuncturist in an outpatient setting as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

      Citizenship: U.S. Citizen required.

      Security: Must possess and maintain an acceptable Tier III security investigation. A Common Access Card (CAC) will be issued upon completion and approval of background checks by the Installation Security Manager.

DUTIES:

      Provide individualized acupuncture treatment to service members and beneficiaries served by the Intrepid Spirit Center.

      Utilize standard medical evaluation procedures together with East Asian Medicine evaluation to formulate a differential diagnosis and develop an individualized acupuncture treatment plan.

      Incorporate the various training techniques taught within East Asian Medicine and acupuncture, applying them appropriately to patient presentations.

      Educate patients on healthy lifestyle=””>•      Provide group acupuncture sessions as determined by clinical need and team planning.

      Complete clinical notes in the electronic health record system; document and code information related to patient care on a timely basis following established guidelines.

      Obtain and document patient consent prior to acupuncture treatments involving any needling procedure. Oral informed consent is valid for auricular acupuncture only.

      Communicate with other health care providers as appropriate to coordinate care.

      Review referrals, screen for appropriateness of care, and direct patients to other services when necessary.

      Serve as Subject Matter Expert on acupuncture and East Asian Medicine services, providing guidance when requested regarding purchased care.

      Complete training to obtain knowledge and maintain competency in MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs.

      Comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection, utilization management requirements, and applicable system applications.

      Prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards for timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature, using only DoD-approved abbreviations in the patient health record (DoDI 6025.13 and DoDM 6055.05).

      Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters.

      Respond to beneficiary messages submitted and received in the MHS Genesis secure portal within one (1) business day.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
