SITE OF SERVICE
Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis AFB, NV. The 99th Medical Group operates the Flagship of Air Force medical facilities, providing quality, cost-effective health care for more than 46,000 enrollees, including almost 11,100 active-duty members.
HOURS
Monday through Thursday: 0700-1630 (with 30-minute uncompensated lunch)
Friday: 0700-1130 (half day, no lunch break)
Not to exceed 40 hours per week. No on-call required. Schedule changes communicated at least 30 calendar days in advance.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Dentist performs a full range of professional dental tasks at Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center. This includes treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases and health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. The position provides care to service members, veterans, and their families under a personal services arrangement with day-to-day supervision comparable to military and civil service dental personnel.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS
• Degree: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from an accredited dental school approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA)
• Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a dentist in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory
• Experience: Minimum one (1) year full-time practice in dentistry OR recent graduate (within 1 year) of an accredited post-graduate dentistry training program
• Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross; certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75
• DEA Registration: Required
• NPI: 10-digit National Provider Identifier from CMS required
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizen, noncitizen national, lawful permanent resident, or alien authorized to work in the U.S.
• Physical: Ability to perform long hours of standing, walking, and lifting; maintain proper posture for safe performance of dental tasks
DUTIES
• Perform a full range of professional dental tasks including treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases
• Provide single and multiple teeth extractions
• Restore simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed materials
• Take mouth impressions for crowns, jackets, dentures, and bridges; fit and insert finished appliances
• Perform corrective and restorative measures on difficult cases using extensive professional knowledge
• Manage dento-alveolar surgery practice including exodontia, biopsy of intraoral lesions, and pre-prosthetic surgery
• Evaluate and manage oral surgery complications including dental infections and cellulitis
• Perform endodontic procedures including diagnosis of difficult cases and retreatment
• Perform complex restorative procedures including fixed and removable prosthodontics
• Ensure correct patient identification using at least two unique identifiers and perform site verification
• Enter workload production data into reporting system
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
• MMR: 2 doses of vaccine OR laboratory evidence of immunity OR birth before 1957
• TB Screening: TST or blood assay within previous 12 months
• Varicella: Proof of immunity if born after 1966
• Tdap: One-time dose if not previously vaccinated; Td boosters every 10 years
• Hepatitis B: 3-dose series with antibody testing within 30-60 days of completion
• Influenza: Annual vaccination required
• COVID-19: Per installation guidelines
• HIV Test: Required with signed consent form
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
This is a personal services arrangement position subject to day-to-day supervision comparable to military and civil service personnel. Contract workers must complete all agency-specified training requirements within 30 calendar days of in-processing. Positions are emergency/mission essential. Planned absences greater than 3 workdays require 30 calendar days advance notice. Medical scrubs required per dental clinic directive. Level I Antiterrorism Awareness Training required within 30 days of access and annually thereafter.
