SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
SITE OF SERVICE:
Intrepid Spirit Centers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (WA)
HOURS:
Monday through Friday, 8- or 10-hour shifts between 0600-1800 (typical clinical hours 0700-1600). 40 hours per week. No on-call or Federal holidays required.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide specialized speech-language pathology services at the Intrepid Spirit Centers under a Defense Health Agency (DHA) personal services contract. The SLP performs with the highest level of clinical expertise, providing precedent-setting diagnoses, treatment, and case management to patients suffering from severe speech disorders and impairments related to traumatic brain injury (TBI). This role involves designing innovative approaches to evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of complex caseload assignments.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
• Education: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communications Sciences and Disorders, or directly related field from a CAA-accredited program of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
• Certification: National certification – Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
• Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in credentialing instruction.
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizen required.
• Security: Must possess and maintain Tier III security investigation.
DUTIES:
• Perform with highest level of clinical expertise providing precedent-setting diagnoses, treatment, and case management to patients with severe speech disorders related to TBI.
• Design, develop, and apply new approaches and innovative methods of problem-solving in evaluation, treatment, management, rehabilitation, and resolution of unique caseload assignments.
• Function across gamut of speech language pathology activities required for the population.
• Apply innovative diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical trial techniques developed within the Center or strategic partners.
• Document and develop clinical practice guidelines, evidence-based practice standards of care, templates, and testing guidelines.
• Apply advanced scientific methodologies in design and execution of novel research in speech pathology field.
• Participate in advanced clinical research projects relative to diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of communication and swallowing disorders.
• Participate in development of protocols to investigate efficacy and effectiveness of new clinical tests and practice guidelines.
• Serve as role model for effective speech pathology best practice skills.
• Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters.
• Respond to beneficiary messages in MHS Genesis secure portal within one (1) business day.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
Must be comfortable working with complex TBI cases referred following failed treatment plans at other tertiary care centers. Must possess knowledge of Dragon dictation software, MHS Genesis, and Microsoft Office programs. Must comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection/peer review/utilization management requirements.
