NEUROLOGIST
SITE OF SERVICE:
National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) Fort Cavazos, TX 76544
HOURS:
Monday through Friday, 8- or 10-hour shifts between 0600-1800 (typical clinical hours 0700-1600). 40 hours per week. No on-call or Federal holidays required.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Neurologist will provide specialized neurological services at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) or Intrepid Spirit Center under a Defense Health Agency (DHA) personal services contract. The Neurologist diagnoses and treats neurological disorders, performs neurological examinations, interprets diagnostic tests, and develops individualized treatment plans for service members affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI). This role involves serving as a Subject Matter Expert in neurology and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team on complex neurological and neuropsychiatric cases.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
• Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada, or ECFMG certification for foreign medical graduates.
• Board Certification: Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
• Licensure: Current, valid, unrestricted license as a Neurologist from any U.S. State, DC, Puerto Rico, or U.S. Territory.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Internship/Residency: Successful completion of ACGME or AOA-approved internship and residency program in neurology.
• Experience: At least two years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting within the past five years with privileges as a neurologist.
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizen required.
• Security: Must possess and maintain Tier III security investigation.
• DEA Registration: DEA registration number required if prescribing controlled substances.
DUTIES:
• Diagnose and treat neurological disorders; perform neurological examinations and interpret results of diagnostic tests including MRIs, CT scans, and EEGs.
• Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to individual needs of patients.
• Provide outpatient care to patients with neurological conditions.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, social workers, and therapists.
• Provide consultation services to other departments and specialists within the healthcare system.
• Participate in case discussions and treatment planning meetings.
• Routinely examine and conduct thorough studies using evaluation assets including EEG, MEG, olfactory testing, neuro-regenerative, and neuro-cognitive evaluations.
• Interpret and integrate neurological exam test results with imaging, laboratory data, and information from other disciplines for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in neurology collaborating with clinicians on complicated neurological and neuropsychiatric cases.
• Oversee and educate interdisciplinary teams responsible for testing and treating patients with neurological issues.
• Participate in continuing medical education to stay updated with latest advancements in neurology.
• Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters.
• Respond to beneficiary messages in MHS Genesis secure portal within one (1) business day.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
Must be comfortable working with complex TBI and psychological health cases. Must foster interdisciplinary approach to care relying on pattern recognition of physical, behavioral, social, and spiritual conditions. Must possess knowledge of Dragon dictation software, MHS Genesis, and Microsoft Office programs. Must comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection/peer review/utilization management requirements.
