CENTRAL STERILE SUPPLY TECHNICIAN
SITE OF SERVICE:
Naval Health Clinic, Lemoore, CA
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Certificate of completion of a central sterile supply training course.
Certification: Current certification by one of the following:
· The International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management
· The National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience within the last two years as a Central Sterile Supply Technician.
Certification: Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart or American Red Cross
U.S. Citizenship: Shall be U.S. citizens.
English Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
HCW Physical Capability: HCWs shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required.
CORE DUTIES:
· Receive, disassemble, and inspect for damaged reusable medical devices and
surgical instrumentation. Additionally, receive and dispose of regulated medical waste,
general waste, and soiled linen. The contractor shall be responsible for daily processing
of items covered under the command infection control manual and command linen
instruction, manufacturer’s instructions for use, BUMED instruction DHA Procedural
Instruction, and other related instructions, regulations, etc.
· Assemble and prepare a full range of specialty trays and instrument sets for
general dentistry, comprehensive dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures
for proper sterilization utilizing inventory sheets.
· Select correct wrapping or packaging material for dental devices and surgical
instrument sets.
· Select sterilization process in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions for
use, BUMED Instruction, DHA Procedural Instruction, and other related instructions,
regulations, etc. to include: Steam Sterilization, and high level disinfection.
· Correctly label, seal, wrap, or place in instrument cassettes, peel packs, bur
blocks, and trays items with appropriate chemical indicators, and process instruments
according to the manufactures instructions for use (MIFU) and under guidance from the
Command.
DRESS CODE:
Central Sterile Supply Technician staff are required to wear clinic provided scrubs, hair cover, and shoe covers (or they can bring dedicated clinic shoes). Shoes will be washable and without openings. These shoes are not to be taken home at night. There is a locker room on site, and they will be issued a locker. Personnel will wear a clean lab coat or jacket that is closed or buttoned when outside authorized patient care spaces. Will not wear artificial fingernails or extenders. Natural nails will be maintained ¼ inch or less. No jewelry or ornaments on hands or wrists (including wristwatches and rings) will be worn. Artificial fingernails and/or nail polish are not authorized. All hair, including facial hair, must be covered Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be readily available at point of use to include gowns, utility gloves, and eye protection to minimize the chance of a possible exposure from gross contaminants.
HOURS:
Services shall be provided Monday – Friday between the hours of 0630 and 1630 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5 to 9 hour period to include an uncompensated 30-to-60-minute lunch break. Total work hours shall not exceed 80 hours per two-week period. No on call.
BASE DOWN DAYS:
During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
