MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

 

SITE OF SERVICE:

·        Fort Bliss Detention Center, El Paso, TX.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

·        Degree: Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or a related clinical area.

·        Education: Graduate from a School of Social Work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)..

·        Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of clinical experience with at least 2 years in a correctional, forensic or high-acuity health setting.

·        License: Active, unrestricted license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or equivalent (required)

·        U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.

·        English Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.

·        HCW Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

DUTIES:

• Oversee all mental health services provided at the facility, including intake assessments, crisis intervention, counseling, and reentry planning.

• Supervise and support a team of mental health professionals (e.g., therapists, case managers, counselors).

• Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations for inmates with acute or chronic behavioral health needs.

• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans, ensuring continuity of care and measurable outcomes.

• Respond to psychiatric emergencies and provide direct clinical interventions when needed.

• Coordinate with facility leadership, medical staff, and external agencies to ensure timely referrals, transfers, or hospitalizations when appropriate.

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, including HIPAA, PREA, NCCHC, and ACA standards.

• Maintain accurate and thorough clinical documentation in electronic medical records.

• Provide ongoing staff training related to mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and trauma-informed care practices.

• Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and facility committees related to mental health and inmate wellbeing.

• Analyze service utilization trends, identify gaps in care, and recommend quality improvement initiatives.

HOURS:

·        Shifts will be 8 hours per day.

 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
