LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE

SITE OF SERVICE:

·       William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) – Fort Bliss, TX

·       Full Time

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

·       Education: Diploma/Certificate

·       Accreditation: Possess a diploma as a graduate from a nationally accredited or state approved vocational nursing program of at least nine months in duration.

·       Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association: Basic Life Support (BLS)

·       Experience: Possess a minimum of one year of experience within the last two years working as a full-time LVN.

·       Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice nursing as an LVN in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

·       U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen

·       English Language Requirement:  Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.

·       Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

SPECIFIC TASKS:

Pre-/Post Mobilization and Readiness Processing

·       Process: The main mission is to conduct mobilization/deployment, demobilization/re-deployment and/or soldier readiness for all SMS, civilians, and contractors to deploy/re-deploy from the theater of operations. Key to each process is the roster of personnel participating in the activity. These rosters will be provided by the MEDCOM liaison and shall be used by the Contractor to ensure that all personnel going through the process are registered in appropriate IS (MHS Genesis 3, Medical Protection System (MEDPROS), etc.). Proper pre-planning and data entry will help facilitate a timely throughput.

·       Mobilization: The process begins with a series of administrative and medical briefs and an overview of the mobilization and medical stations. Contractor staff shall review a computer-generated, pre-deployment health assessment form with everyone going through the process. Individuals are asked by the HCP/CP to accurately complete the form. The HCP/CP also completes a review of the individual’s MEDPROS to determine what deficiencies the individual might have, and any such deficiencies are annotated on the form. The individual then proceeds to each station. MEDPROS is again checked at each station. The stations are Laboratory, Immunizations, Dental, Vision Screening, and Audiology. When all stations are complete, the patient is seen by a physician/PA/NP who reviews all the data and discusses any health concerns with the patient. If a health issue is identified that requires further evaluation, the patient is seen in Case Management where a file is opened, and appointments are made with the appropriate clinic.

·       Demobilization: The process beings with a series of briefings which include administrative, medical, and entitlement briefs. Currently, a post-deployment health assessment form is completed by the patient prior to leaving theater. The completed form is reviewed with the individual by the HCP/CP who notes any changes. MEDPROS is checked and the HCP annotates any changes onto the form. The individual then proceeds through the following stations: Laboratory, Immunizations, Vision Screening, and Audiology. When all stations are complete, the individual is seen by a physician/PA/NP who reviews the form and discusses any health concerns that the individual may have. If health issues are identified, a consult is placed, and the individual is seen by a case manager who opens a file and schedules an appointment with the appropriate clinic.

·       Other Services: Other services to be conducted by the Contractor may include, but are not limited to, post-deployment health reassessments, periodic health assessments, Welcome Center soldier assessments, and active component readiness assessments.

DUTIES:

·       Obtain patient history and pertinent family history.

·       Administer health risk appraisal questionnaire.

·       Perform QC checks and operator maintenance for patient care equipment.

·       Assist in identifying SM needs and implementing the plan of care.

·       Document Care Given: Maintain documentation of all treatment provided IAW directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the policy. Ensure all documentation and reports are legible and complete. The HCP shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards to include, but not limited to, timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content and signature.

·       Prepare SMs for physical examination.

·       Carry out prescribed physician, PA, and/or NP orders and document in patient medical records.

·       Communicate pertinent patient data to physician, PA, and/or NP as appropriate.

·       Recognize and initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations, including initiating life saving measures in absence of physician, PA, and/or NP.

·       Respond to telephone inquiries regarding clinic services and/or follow-up ancillary reports.

·        Assist with clinic related administrative tasks.

 

HOURS:

Routine operational hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but can vary as dictated by the mission to medically screen all personnel scheduled to be processed on that day or as directed by the medical facility. Although shifts are generally 40 hours per week, the possibility exists for longer shifts, evening shifts, and weekend shifts services. This includes a 30 or 60-minute lunch break, which is not paid by the government.

Base Down Days:

During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty). 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
