LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

SITE OF SERVICE:

  • Warrior Medicine Clinic – Andersen AFB, GU
  • Full Time

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience: Shall have practiced as an LVN performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 24 months within the past 36 months.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen
  • English Language Requirement:  Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

DUTIES:

  • Serves as a Vocational Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Monitors and records age-appropriate physiological measurements.
  • Orients new patients to the clinic/hospital environment.
  • Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
  • Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative healthcare and health maintenance.
  • Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures.
  • Prepares and administers medications in accordance with scope of practice and training.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures.
  • Performs appropriate portions of physical examinations including age-appropriate physical measurements.
  • Adheres to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.
  • Performs central sterile supply duties.
  • Ensures all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.
  • Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs.
  • Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.
  • Prepares and submits administrative reports.
  • Participates in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with co-workers, families, peers, and other team members.
  • Must have understanding of and ability to prepare and administer, sublingual, topical, inhalation medications.
  • Conducts and accurately documents history and physical, treatments, procedure rendered and observed effects in accordance with scope of practice and training, ensuring timeliness, accuracy of content and signature.
  • Ensures patient privacy and personal dignity throughout all procedures.
  • Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
  • Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.
  • Observe, identify and respond to the patient’s needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.
  • Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure.
  • Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice.
  • Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction.

HOURS:

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0700 and 1600 for an 8.5-hour shift period to include an uncompensated 30-minute meal break.
  • In no instance will the HCW be required to provide excess of 80 hours per two-week period. Specific hours shall be scheduled 30 days in advance by the Department Head or a designated Government Representative.

Base Down Days:

During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty). 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
