LUKE is a founding partner of the Human Flourishing Alliance, alongside the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). Together we are expanding access to Human Flourishing Coaches who meet people where they are with faith-based and evidence-informed care. The initiative is guided by the HERO Council — Human Flourishing, Excellence, Resilience, and Oversight — a body of nationally recognized clinicians, academics, and ministry leaders who ensure the highest standards of care. Churches, ministries, and community members interested in becoming Human Flourishing Coaches can learn more and sign up through Light University, AACC’s training platform.

Human flourishing reflects LUKE’s commitment to positively impact people through quality care. It allows us to address immediate needs while also creating the conditions for America’s heroes and their families to thrive.

We invite organizations and people from across the nation to join this effort. Email hf@lukestaffing.com to schedule a conversation or request partner materials, or visit the Human Flourishing Alliance website to learn more and get involved.

What is Human Flourishing?

Human flourishing is recognized as a national standard for well-being and an urgent imperative for those who serve, one that goes beyond treating symptoms to nurturing the whole person. It emphasizes:

  • Happiness and Life Satisfaction - overall well-being and contentment in life.
  • Mental and Physical Health - resilience in both mind and body.
  • Meaning and Purpose - direction, goals, and a sense that life has significance.
  • Character and Virtue - integrity, self control, kindness, and moral grounding.
  • Close Social Relationships - strong, supportive connections with family, friends, and community.
  • Financial and Material Stability - having the resources to meet basic needs and avoid hardship.

These six domains are the foundation of the Global Flourishing Study, the largest international research project ever undertaken on well-being. Go to the study website to learn more.

Happiness & Life Satisfaction

Increasingly, leaders in government, healthcare, and academia recognize flourishing not as a concept, but as a practical, evidence-informed path to help individuals thrive. For our nation’s heroes: warfighters, service members, veterans, federal law enforcement, first responders, and their families, this approach is transformative. Human flourishing restores dignity and purpose to those who serve.

THE CONTINUOUS CHALLENGES

Our nation’s heroes face operational stress, trauma, and the difficulties of reintegration. Many do not seek behavioral health care because of stigma, privacy concerns, or fear of career impact. The need is real, with an average of 17 Veteran suicides per day in 2022, 523 service members lost to suicide in 2023, and more law enforcement officers and firefighters dying from suicide than in the line of duty.

Human Flourishing As a Solution

Human flourishing coaching provides proactive, scalable, and trusted pathways to care. Coaches can be trained quickly, embedded with care teams, and engaged early to build resilience and reduce escalation to higher levels of care. Trust is the foundation. For many, trust is faith-based; for others, it is rooted in values, purpose, or community.

This approach meets people where they are. Coaching is private, reduces stigma, and encourages early help-seeking. This model complements the care already delivered through LUKE’s federal healthcare contracts, ensuring early engagement and stronger outcomes for those who serve.

“For more than twenty years, LUKE has served alongside the federal government to deliver healthcare for those who protect our nation. True flourishing requires more than clinical services alone. It takes professional care working in concert with the trusted networks that people turn to first, including faith and community organizations. When structured partnerships are built, our heroes are surrounded with strength, resilience is restored, and sustainable support systems are created so they are never left to carry their burdens in silence. Organizations and people from across the nation are invited to join in this mission so that no hero stands alone.”
