Registered Nurse (Gastroenterology)

 

SITE OF SERVICE: Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH), 1650 Cochrane Cir, CO 80913

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: The RN, Gastroenterology (GI) supporting Evans Army Community Hospital provides high-quality care to military beneficiaries in a mission-focused military treatment facility environment. This role supports the health and readiness of active-duty service members, families, and other eligible beneficiaries through direct patient care, clinical coordination, and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Degree of Nursing/Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Experience: Two years of nursing experience in an outpatient setting within the past 3 years. Minimum of 1-year bedside hospital experience. Experience performing care and treatment of patients in a gastroenterology setting.

Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse.

Cardiac Certification: Current BLS and ACLS through American Heart or the American Red Cross.

U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen

English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.

Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

Duties:

·       Documents care, assessments, treatments, and patient interactions in the EHR.

·       Coordinates with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.

·       Performs clinical procedures and patient education as assigned.

·       Maintains infection control, safety, and privacy standards.

·       Responds appropriately to urgent or emergent patient needs.

·       Provides direct care within the scope of training, privileges, and facility policy.

·       Work involves physical exertion such as prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting and positioning patients, and moving furniture/equipment.

·       Provides an advanced level of specialized nursing care to complex, critically ill patients. Provides continuous observation and monitoring and intervenes to prevent complications and attempt to restore health. Administers emergency drugs as directed by a physician. Assists in the performance of endotracheal intubation and other duties as instructed. Interprets signs and symptoms of deterioration in condition and updates MD of changes. Consults with physicians regarding medical and nursing management. Ensures all infection control standards are applied in accordance with unit and department operating instructions. Assists the physician with procedures such as cardio-version and insertion of invasive lines, chest tubes, etc. Inserts intravenous catheters and performs venipunctures to collect blood samples. Assesses patient's response regarding cardiac output, vital signs, peripheral perfusion, and level of consciousness. Administers and regulates intravenous fluids such as lipids and blood volume expanders. Administers and regulates vasoactive drugs

·       Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.

·       Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.

·       Perform physical exam and health histories.

·       Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.

·       Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.

·       Guide and advise care provided by other healthcare professionals.

·       Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.

·       Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.

·       Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.

·       Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.

·       Perform nursing services identified in the TO.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday. Duty hours are 8 hours between 0645–1515 with a 30-minute uncompensated lunch.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
