PHYSICIAN – NEUROLOGY
SITE OF SERVICE:
Evans Army Community Hospital, Ft. Carson, CO
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Physician, Neurology supporting Evans Army Community Hospital provides high-quality care to military beneficiaries in a mission-focused military treatment facility environment. This role supports the health and readiness of active-duty service members, families, and other eligible beneficiaries through direct patient care, clinical coordination, and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
· Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.
· Internship/Residency: Successful completion of ACGME Approved internship and residency program in neurology
· Board Certification: Current board certification in adult Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (ABPN).
· Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross: Basic Life Support (BLS)
· Experience: Minimum two years of neurology experience within the last 3 years.
· Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands.
· U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen
· English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
· Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
DUTIES:
· Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and disorders of the nervous system.
· Provides outpatient and inpatient care as scheduled by the Government.
· Evaluates and manages emergency neurological problems as they occur.
· Performs lumbar punctures and interprets evoked potentials and electroencephalograms.
· Provides chemo denervation for common neurological conditions.
· Prepares required records and reports in support of services rendered.
· Provides telemedicine services.
· Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.
· Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.
· Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
· Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
· Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
· Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.
HOURS:
Monday through Friday; will not exceed 40 scheduled hours per week. Duty hours are Monday–Friday, 0700–1600, with no lunch break specified. On-call hours: N/A.
BASE DOWN DAYS:
During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
