CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT

OVERVIEW:

Interview patients and record their medical history. Measure patients' vital signs, such as their blood pressure and weight. Help physicians with patient examinations. Located in the following departments: Audiology, Deployment Health Department, Women’s Health Services and Primary Care Services, Pediatrics for Naval Hospital Clinic/Navy Medicine Readiness Training Command (NHC/NMRTC) Oak Harbor, WA.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Degree: Certificate.

Accreditation: Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.

Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Certification: One of the follow:

·       NHA (National Health career Association)

·       ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants)

·       NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)

·       AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) – original contract requirement

·       AMT (American Medical Technologists) – original contract requirement

·       AMCA (American Medical Certification Association)

Experience: One year of experience within the last two years as a Certified Medical Assistant.

U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen

English Language Requirement:  Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.

Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

 

DUTIES:

·       Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival.

·       Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

·       Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure,

·       and pulse oximeter reading.

·       Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies

·       and vital signs on the correct form.

·       Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered.

·       Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms.

·       Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.

·       Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.

·

 

HOURS:

Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0700 and 1630 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5-to-9-hour period, to include an uncompensated 30- to-60-minute lunch break, respectively

 

Base Down Days:

During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty). 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
