DENTAL ASSISTANT
SITE OF SERVICE:
Services will be provided at FCI Loretto, 772 Saint Joseph Street, Loretto, PA
HOURS: The facility is expected to require (1) Dental Assistant that will provide an average of (5) 8hr shifts per week not exceeding 40 hours a weeks, excluding Federal Holidays.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Accredited Dental Assistant Program must include dental radiology and radiology safety.
Certification: List labor category certifications or board certifications
Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
· Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Experience: Shall have one (2) years of experience providing Dental Assistant Services.
Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Dental Hygienist in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable.
DUTIES:
· Assists Dental Officer in dental specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations.
· Retrieve patient’s records and escorts patients to proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares patient for attending Dental Officer.
· Assists Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications.
· Passes instruments, retracts tongue and cheek, irrigates oral cavity, and operates aspirator.
· Observes patient’s responses, and assists patient for dismissal from the Dental Clinic.
· Gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments.
· Makes necessary entries on treatment records (both electronic and paper records).
· Prepares dental treatment room for the next patient.
· Assists in the treatment of emergency cases.
· Provides dental health education.
· Preparation of patients for periodontal surgery. Dental and periodontal charting. Maintains dental equipment.
· Cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments. Performs daily inspection of equipment and makes minor repairs. Reports defective equipment, or utilizes corrective action.
· Takes radiographs of patients using standard and digital dental radiographic, panelipse, cephalometric, and transcranial equipment. Obtains diagnostic quality periapical, occlusal, lateral, jaw, TMJ, and panographic radiographs.
· Correctly positions patient and film. Determines level of radiation intensity to minimize radiation exposure of patients. Processes and saves digital radiographs to patient medical records. Maintains proper infection control procedures in radiographic techniques. Selects tooth shade for composite restorations and denture.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
