REGISTERED NURSE
SITE OF SERVICE:
Department of Veterans Affairs, Eastern Colorado Healthcare System (ECHCS), 4100 E. Mississippi Ave, Glendale, CO 80246
HOURS:
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (excluding federal holidays)
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide on-site professional nursing services to beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Eastern Colorado Healthcare System (ECHCS). The RN will serve in the Office of Community Care (OCC) and/or the Referral Coordination Team (RCT), delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with VA policies, standards of care, and national accreditation requirements.
DUTIES:
Clinical Review & Coordination:
· Review consults and care requests for completeness and appropriateness.
· Conduct utilization reviews and disposition care in accordance with VA and community care guidelines.
· Perform clinical review of incoming medical records, documenting communication with ordering providers and primary care providers.
· Coordinate care between veterans, VA providers, community providers, and administrative staff to ensure timely and appropriate care authorizations.
· Referral Coordination Team Duties:
· Triage specialty consults for clinical appropriateness within National Referral Coordination Initiative (RCI) standards.
· Communicate with veterans to discuss healthcare options and support informed decision-making.
· Provide clinical knowledge and act as a resource for multidisciplinary staff.
· Collaborate with Community Care staff and Clinical Application Coordinators (CACs) to modify consult templates.
· Serve as liaison among internal VA staff, community care providers, and specialty care services.
· Compliance & Documentation:
· Document care accurately and timely in the VA’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system before the end of each shift.
· Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, Joint Commission, and VA regulations.
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives and report patient safety incidents within 24 hours.
· Attend required staff meetings, training, and annual competency assessments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Accreditation: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE).
License: Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of CO.
Experience: Minimum two (2) years of direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years.
Cardiac Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may also be required).
· Must meet all credentialing, privileging, and continuing education requirements per VHA Handbook 1100.19.
English: Demonstrated proficiency in English communication, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship and compliance with all federal employment eligibility requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
