AUDIOLOGY TECHNICIAN

SITE OF SERVICE:

  • U.S. Naval Hospital Guam and associated branch clinics.
  • Full Time

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Possess a high school diploma and (one of the following):
    • A minimum of 2-year full-time experience as a Health Technician, Audiology Technician/Hearing conservation, or audiology assistant
    • Be a graduate of a military corpsman/medic training program
  • Certification: Possess and maintain a certification by the Council on the Accreditation of Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) or Department of Defense equivalent certificate.
  • Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of one year of experience within the last two years working as a full-time Audiology technician.
  • U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen
  • English Language Requirement:  Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

DUTIES:

  • Perform pure tone threshold hearing test and otoscopic screening techniques, and patient counseling on test result.
  • Check and calibrate audiometric instruments and equipment.
  • Make hearing aid ear mold impressions and perform in-house hearing aid repair. Track and manage hearing aid and other supply orders.
  • Prepare patients for testing, obtain audiology related patient histories, and review medical records for past audiological test results.
  • Maintain records and documentation of testing.
  • Scheduling of patients and patient medical record documentation in electronic systems and on medical forms.
  • Perform audiology/hearing conservation-related administrative and clerical procedures.
  • Train and educate patients on hearing loss prevention and proper hearing protection fitting techniques.

HOURS:

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0700 and 1630 for an 8.5-hour to 9-hours period to include uncompensated 30-60 minutes meals break, respectively.
  • In no instance will the HCW be required to provide excess of 80 hours per two-week period.

Base Down Days:

During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty). 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
