REMOTE MEDICAL CODER – GUIDEHOUSE

Inpatient Medical Coder Role:

As an Inpatient Medical Coder, you will accurately apply state ICD-10 and PCS procedure codes for various service types, ensuring compliance with coding, billing, regulatory standards, and internal and external reporting requirements. You’ll perform a thorough review of clinical documentation to extract relevant data and assign appropriate ICD-10 and PCS codes, in alignment with official guidelines, CMS regulations, and any mandated standards. Under the guidance of the coding manager, you will ensure precise coding of conditions and procedures as documented.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent & Associates Degree (Preferred)
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience coding acute care Inpatient hospital records
  • Certification: Active CCS, CPC-H, RHIT, or RHIA certification
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a federal background check

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience with trauma, stroke, cardiac, cancer, and general/vascular surgery coding
  • Previous federal or military medical coding experience
  • Proficiency in EHR systems such as EPIC, Cerner, Next Gen, or Allscripts
  • Solid understanding of Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology
  • Familiarity with Coding Clinics, ICD-10-CM, and PCS
  • Knowledge of government and payer coding guidelines
  • Dedication to maintaining professional credentials

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
